Lloyd Sutherland
“Former” Chief Engineer

Mr. Sutherland is mentioned for his key contributions made during his employment with PMD (1998-2012) and is a formally trained mechanical engineer with a varied research and development background. From 1981 to 1984, he was an Instrument Designer at Warner Lambert, where he designed mechanical systems for a blood coagulation and a microbiology diagnostic instrument. From 1984 to 1987, he was a Senior Project Engineer at Pfizer Hospital Products Group, where he was part of the Strategic Marketing Development Group, whose main function was to identify and develop new and innovative wound closure and surgical devices. Mr. Sutherland’s accomplishments include the redesign of the “skin staple”. He also secured patents for a sternum closure device and an intestinal stapler. He did engineering development work on the cardio-vascular stapler and the colon shield. He also co-authored FDA submittals and selected and monitored production vendors for compliance with FDA regulations.
